Remembering Charleen
This serves as a place to cherish and honor her memory. Feel free to share your stories and memories of Charleen as we celebrate her life.
Her Life
Charleen was born in Lucedale, Mississippi. After spending her early years in Pensacola FL, she settled in Brewton where she lived for 60 years. She found joy in raising and nurturing her children, being a devoted mother and wife and caring for her home. She was an avid gardener and self-taught landscape artist who not only loved planting and tending to her own trees, plants, and flowers but enjoyed helping others design their yards as well. She was well known for her love of animals and throughout her life has saved, fostered and cared for many helpless animals in need, showing kindness and compassion to each creature she would ever come across.
Charleen's enthusiasm for the things in nature, from plants to animals and especially people came from her love for her creator, Jehovah God. As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, her faith and hope in the future as promised in the Bible guided her life, leading her to teach others about its promises.
After the loss of her son Sean Deslonde some 27 years earlier, she lived her remaining life in happy expectation of God's promise in the Bible to resurrect those who have died. Even until her passing, she found comfort in scriptures such as John 5:25-29; Acts 2:27 regarding the resurrection; Revelation 21:4, regarding the end of Death and sadness; and looked forward to eternal life with friends and family as described in Psalms 37:29. Those of her remaining family look forward to seeing Charleen, Sean, and their other loved ones who have fallen asleep in death as well.
Mrs. Charleen Deslonde was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Ruth Howell; and a son, Sean Deslonde.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, James Deslonde of Brewton, Alabama; one son, Nick (Britany) Deslonde of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; one brother, Darryl (Maria) Howell of New York; one sister, Rosalyn Wiggins of Colorado; and four grandchildren.
